I said I wasn't gonna so I did.

My God.

Now it's like a magnet.  I can't stop watching.

I listened on my way home tonight to a story on NPR about a woman who traveled from Tokyo to Sendai via train then taxi, at a cost of $800, to find her Mother and Father alive, in their mostly undamaged home.  I listened to their reunion and imagined hugs and frantic kisses - the reporter said they never touched; they bowed to each other, and shared news of the woman's grandparents, who were surely dead.  I cried.

And now I'm watching this horror, this tragedy, this sad, sad, so sad thing.

Poor Japan.

  1. I'm right there with you. I think we're so upset because we recall the 2004 tsunami and we're on the other side of the world and can't do anything more than just send funds over there (and hope they actually get to the people who need money). It's so sad.

  2. I'm watching too, the latest about another explosion at the nuclear plant.

It's beyond sad, beyond comprehension. I agree with Chubby M. as far as all donations getting right to those poor people.

  3. I can't do it. I can't watch this stuff. It just kills me the devastation. All people talk about and post about around here (in the Bay Area, CA) is the 15 million dollars in damage to the harbor in Santa Cruz and all the poor rich people who lost their pleasure boats. The people who use their boats for their business (fishing, tours, etc.) I get their disbelief...that's their livelihood, but the ones who lost their waterskiing boats? I want to punch those people in the face. Really??? Sorry your life is so tough. I can't imagine anyone having it rougher than you, yacht man. Unbelievable.

  4. It makes me feel guilty, but I don't watch it. I won't look at the pictures. I don't want to have to face how horrible it is, and think about how freaking spoiled I am, living so happily and comfortably in what, for most people, is an absolute dream.
