I won't celebrate death, not even a bad guy's.

I'm glad they're not releasing the death photos of Osama bin Laden.

Here's what Obama told CBS, according to White House press secretary Jay Carney: "It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as a incitement to violence or propaganda tools. That's not who we are. We don't trot out this stuff as trophies. We don't need to spike the football."  Obama: We won’t release bin Laden pics

Amen.

I don't celebrate death.  I won't celebrate the way this man lived his life (which is, I think, what we're supposed to do when a person dies) - this man was evil and filled with hate.  But I won't celebrate or cheer in response to his death.  I feel nothing at news of his death.

That's not true; I feel concern for a world where men like this are cultivated.

  1. I totally agree!!!! I think it's sick that people need validation beyond what's already been given.

  2. Amen! We were talking about this all yesterday. My daughter {18} was horrified at all the people cheering and laughing. A death is never to be celebrated...

  3. What bothers me most about any "celebration" is that it didn't signify the end of something other than the life of a demon; not a war, not an end to the failing economy of our country, not an end to cancer or other devastating disease.

What scares me most is what might lie ahead. Killing this one poisonous snake doesn't stop others from unleashing their venom against this country and others.

Like you, I felt nothing; Bin Laden was a murderer, he paid the price for his crimes against humanity. Done, over; time to move on.

  4. Yes.

When I saw images of Americans celebrating his death in the streets I just shuddered and remembered how THEY celebrated after 911.

I don't want to be like them.

    I won't celebrate a death either.

  5. Absolutely could not agree with you more. I wrote something similar, the day after they announced his being killed, in response to seeing all these people cheering and clapping. I think celebrating a murder is sick. We berated his followers for doing just that same thing on 9/11 but then we go and do it too? Hypocrites really irritate me. Anyway, you can read my post if you're so inclined to visit my blog I'm not sure how far down it is now but its somewhere lol

Discovered you through Comment Love at FTLOB, really enjoying your blog so far!
