I say dumb things.

Today...
I asked a Hispanic co-worker if he'd mow my lawn.  (He looked at me like I'd grown a second head - in my defense, he lives down the street from me and said he was taking the day off tomorrow.  I would've made the "Will you mow my lawn?" comment to anyone in the same circumstances.)

And then I threatened to whip an African-American co-worker.  (He was apologizing for being late to his delivery.  I regularly threaten to "beat" Jimi and my friends for minor infractions - I thought I was being funny.  For a moment.)

What the FUCK, Natalie?

I should probably stop talking.

  1. LOL. So long as everyone involved knows it is you and your joking, I wouldn't worry about it.
One time there was a horribly offensive guy at work who kept telling other women and myself "that's women's work" and then wouldn't do the task he has been asked to do. Or, that the task I was doing was a "man's job". One day, he wasn't doing anything, I was swamped beyond belief and he gave me that line. I went to the head HR person and the guy was fired (not because of me soley, but he had enough that that seemed to be the final draw). After that the other guys wouldn't joke with me anymore like they used to for fear I'd say something. :(

Not sure exactly how that relates, but what I'm trying to say is in context it is ok.

  2. I wish I could think of something to say to make you feel better, but with me being the King of Gaffes and all, I'm afraid that it would probably just offend you. ;)

  3. I say stuff like this all the time - totally offensive, but not meant that way at all. And the worst part is, that I usually don't realize what happened until others are looking at me like I have 3 heads.
